Non NHS Services

Private Work Fees

The National Health Service provides most healthcare to the majority of people free of charge, but there are exceptions. GPs are self-employed and are contracted to provide NHS general medical services for their patients.

Sometimes, GPs are asked to provide additional services which fall outside their contract and in these circumstances, they are entitled to make a reasonable charge for providing them.  Please scroll down to view our charges for non NHS work and request a private service using our secure online form.

Passport Signing

In the past it was ok to use your Doctor/GP to countersign your application. Due to high demand and complaints received from medical professionals, you are now not able to use your registered doctor as a counter signatory (however, if you have a friend or colleague who is a doctor this is still permitted).

Private Services are subject to availability of GPs

Time spent completing forms and preparing reports takes the GP away from the medical care of his or her patients. Most GPs have a very heavy workload – the majority work up to 70 hours a week – and paperwork takes up an increasing amount of their time, so many GPs find they have to take some paperwork home at night and weekends.

Verwood Surgery - Non-NHS Services and fees 2025-26

These fees are correct at date of publication - June 2025

Please be aware that not all services provided by this surgery are funded by the NHS.

You will be informed in advance if the service you request falls outside of NHS provision and whether a fee applies.

In some cases, these fees may be covered by your employer or the local authority, but there may be instances where you are required to pay the fee directly to the practice.
